LEL PhD student Marije van Hattum has been notching up a string of successes. At ICAME 33 in Leuven in June, she was awarded the John Sinclair Bursary for her paper on ‘The development of can and be able to in nineteenth-century Irish English: a corpus-based study’. The bursary honours the best paper by an early career ICAMEr at each conference.
Not only that, but Marije passed her viva last week with great success, and champagne was imbibed. She’ll also be one of the large contingent of current and former LEL members at ICEHL in Zürich this summer. Many congratulations to her!
