Dr Sarah Collie!

Colleague Ricardo Bermúdez-Otero has just returned from Edinburgh, where together with Mits Ota he held a PhD viva for Sarah Collie. Congratulations to Dr Collie! Sarah’s dissertation addresses morphology-phonology interactions in English stress assignment from the viewpoint of Stratal Optimality Theory and, among other fascinating things, tests and develops ideas first proposed in Bermúdez-Otero and McMahon (2006: §3.4). There will soon be a chance to hear Sarah speak at the Linguistics and English Language seminar on Tuesday 26 February 2008 at 4pm in room A101, Samuel Alexander Building. Read the abstract of her talk here.
