LELers at the venue

In blatant disregard for the country’s time-honoured neutrality, an elite team of LEL linguists took Switzerland by storm this week at the 17th International Conference on English Historical Linguistics in Zürich.

Leading the charge was David Denison, who delivered the opening plenary lecture on theories of word classes and their potential shortcomings. The programme also featured talks by lecturer George Walkden, doctorand Marije van Hattum, and recent PhD alumna Ayumi Miura, and the closing plenary was given by Linda van Bergen, a former student of David’s who received her PhD from Manchester in 2000.
