Quantity implicatures from a developmental perspective

Next week (Tue 30th Oct) there will be an ILLS talk in the usual time and place: Samuel Alexander Building A113, at 16:15.

The speaker is Napoleon Katsos (Cambridge), on “Quantity implicatures from a developmental perspective”. Blurb:

“It’s been debated for some time whether a subset of quantity implicatures, namely those that can be associated with context-independent scales such as ‹some, all› and ‹all, and›, are generated by the grammatical system rather than through pragmatic inferencing. In this presentation I review recent experimental evidence from the acquisition of scalar and non-scalar quantity implicatures and explore the implications for theories of implicatures.”

Manchet hopes to see many of you there!
