Postgraduate student Danielle Turton has appeared on BBC’s The One Show!
Danielle, who knows the vowels of Manchester better than anyone else in the world (probably), was enlisted by funnyman Alistair McGowan as part of his quest to discover the genuine Mancunian accent. In order to put her at her ease, the BBC decided to conduct the interview in her native habitat, an Industrial Revolution textile mill.
In this short clip, Danielle talks about Manchester’s special unstressed vowels, one of the topics of her own research. You can catch the clip on iPlayer here, for the moment!
