Tuesday 19th Feb sees Bettelou Los, the newly-appointed Forbes Chair of English Language at the University of Edinburgh, take a trip down south to present not one but TWO talks in Manchester!

The first, for the Langwidge Sandwidge, will be 1pm-2pm in Samuel Alexander A.214, and will be on How to study historical information structure: Introducing the Pentaset. In it she will talk about the information-structural annotation schemes that she and colleagues in Nijmegen have been developing for historical corpus linguistics. You can download the full abstract here.

The second, for ILLS, will be from 4.15pm in Ellen Wilkinson A2.16, and will be on The fate of verb-second in the history of English: evidence for a typological switch? Or: How psycholinguistics can inform historical linguistics. This talk will focus on a development in the history of English, and on how parallel corpora of historically attested languages can be used to replicate modern-day psycholinguistic findings. You can download the full abstract here.

Manchet hopes to see you at one or both!
