Border Crossings and Ruins

The 2013 programme for the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts and Languages (CIDRAL) has just been released!

The theme for the first semester is Border Crossings, and one event in particular may be of interest to LELers and friends: Professor Li Wei (Birkbeck) will be giving a public lecture on Cultural Encounters in Transnational Multilingual Families, at 5pm on Tuesday 12th November in the John Casken Lecture Theatre, Martin Harris Building. The following afternoon, Wednesday 13th November, at 1.30pm there will be a masterclass with Li Wei and our own Yaron Matras, aimed at postgraduate students and researchers. You can download the readings from the CIDRAL event page here.

In the second semester, the theme switches to Ruins. Here LELers may be interested in the visit by Paul Heggarty (MPI Leipzig), who’ll be talking about Ruins and beyond: converging archaeology, genes and language, for a richer tale of our origins. The lecture will be on 1st April, with a masterclass on the following day.

Find the full programme on the CIDRAL website!

UPDATE: masterclass times tweaked slightly, plus a title for Paul Heggarty’s lecture.
