Second-year PhD student Fernanda McDougall has had her research featured in the North West Evening Mail!

Fernanda’s research focuses on the extent to which social mobility has an effect on linguistic variation, looking specifically at the vowel system of the speech community of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK. The article discusses Fernanda’s work with young consultants on this under-studied dialect.

Manchet congratulates Fernanda on joining a short, but growing, list of Mancunian sociolinguists who’ve had their research featured in the popular press!
