MacKenzie returns to our TV screens

“Real American” Laurel MacKenzie is back on the small screen in Friday 7th March’s episode of the One Show, talking about why the American accent seems to be the default for singers everywhere. You can view the clip here on iPlayer, while stocks last!

In the clip, Laurel talks to impressionist Alistair McGowan. She explains that, though there may be some phonetic reasons for singers to sound like they do, the social function of fitting in to a given musical style also plays a major role, along with imitating one’s heroes. They then move to some sort of theatre, where Laurel and Alistair join Scouse singer Sonia in order to analyse her accent.
