The University yesterday reported that Professor Elena Lieven, from the School of Psychological Sciences, has secured a £9,000,000 grant from the ESRC to set up a new International Centre for Language and Communicative Development (LuCiD)!

The grant is one of the largest ever awarded by the ESRC, and the purpose of the centre will be to deliver crucial information needed to design effective interventions in child healthcare, communicative development and early years education. From the University press release:

The Centre, a partnership between Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster universities, will also develop new technological products for parents, including a Babytalk app, which will allow parents and health professionals to record a child’s vocabulary and monitor their progress.

Manchet congratulates Elena and her colleagues in Psychological Sciences as well as in Liverpool and Lancaster!
