Walkden elected to Council of the Philological Society

LEL lecturer George Walkden is an admirably modest man not given to blowing his own trumpet, so every now and then Manchet has to do it for him. George has been elected as a member of the Council of the Philological Society, the oldest learned society in Great Britain devoted to the scholarly study of language and languages. As far as Manchet can make out, he is the youngest current member of the Council.

Walkden, whose work on Old English hwæt keeps popping up in the media every now and then, will also be giving a paper on Old English word order at one of PhilSoc’s meetings next year. Watch this space!
