Manchester LEL on film!

LEL’s new all-singing, all-dancing promotional video has been released! You can view it here.

The video features extracts from interviews with UG students Abdulaziz Bohaimed and Megan Whittaker as well as David Denison and George Walkden. There are also clips from one of Andrew Koontz-Garboden’s action-packed lectures, of the Phonetics Lab, and of our students working with manuscripts at the John Rylands. It’s a lovely overview of some of the things we do, and particularly valuable for prospective students wanting to get an idea of the atmosphere in this “extraordinarily nice” department.

Sadly, time constraints meant that we only get a brief glimpse of the scene in which Laurel MacKenzie and her students team up to defeat an army of killer robots. Even more shockingly, none of George Walkden’s six-hour epic rendition of Beowulf in the original Old English made it into the video. Manchet is still holding out hope that these omissions will be rectified when the director’s cut is released on DVD.
