This Tuesday, the Q-Step programme, on which Manchet has previously reported, held its closing event for the 2014 summer projects, “Stepping Out”.

There were three student interns from LEL:

  • Camilla Barlow, BA Linguistics, Project: An investigation of Morphvox Pro Voice Changer, supervisor: Martin Barry
  • Donald Morrison, BA Linguistics, Project: Variation in Early Middle English negation patterns, supervisor: Dr George Walkden
  • Wen Cai, BA Linguistics, Project: A quantitative study of fast-speech /h/-deletion in American English, supervisor: Dr Laurel MacKenzie

Photographs of the three students with their posters are below! Also included is a photo of Camilla and Donald speaking with Neil Sheldon, Vice-President for education and statistical literacy of the Royal Statistics Society and Vice Chair of the UK Linguistics Olympiad, who took quite an interest in all three students’ work!
