While a small group of Mancunians visited Naples for ICHL 22, another team attended IPrA 14 – the conference of the International Pragmatics Association – in Antwerp. LELers presenting include:

  • Thanh Nyan: Anchoring argumentative utterances: on what basis does one decide what types of context are involved?
  • Maj-Britt Mosegaard Hansen: Institutional interaction and pragmatics
  • Julia Kolkmann, Tine Breban & John Payne: Is the Ghana problem Ghana’s problem?: Differing interpretations of two English NP constructions

Recent PhD alumnus James Murphy and former LEL lecturer Nick Wilson were also on the programme; Maj-Britt Mosegaard Hansen was also a member of the international conference committee and IPrA Consultation Board.
