Steven Pinker to visit Manchester!

Posted on August 21, 2015 by

Steven Pinker, a world-leading psychologist and communicator of linguistics, will be in Manchester in September to talk about his new book The Sense of Style. From the talk blurb:

Does writing well matter in an age of instant communication? More than ever
before, the currency of our social and cultural lives is the written form, from Twitter
and texting to blogs, e-readers and old-fashioned books.

Drawing on the latest research in linguistics and cognitive science, Steve Pinker
replaces the recycled dogma of style guides with reason and evidence. Funny and
thoughtful, he explains why style still matters: in communicating effectively, in
enhancing the spread of ideas, in earning a reader’s trust and, not least, in adding
beauty to the world.

The talk will be at 6:30pm on Tuesday 1st September, in the main lecture theatre at University Place. This is a rare opportunity to hear one of the biggest names in language speak on your doorstep, so don’t miss out! You can get your tickets on the event page here.
