Manchester’s line-up for the 2015-16 season is taking shape with the addition of Julio Villa-García.

Villa-García has been targeted by LEL for an international transfer from his previous club, Villanova University. The signing, which cost an unspecified fee, is now complete. LEL’s squad will be substantially strengthened by his expertise in Spanish linguistics. From the biography on his website:

I was born in Avilés, in the Principality of Asturias, Spain, in the year Spain last hosted the FIFA World Cup. After pursuing degrees mostly in English Studies and Linguistics in Spain, the UK, and the USA, I became an Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Villanova University, in Philadelphia, PA, USA in 2012. In September 2015, I started to work as a Lecturer in Spanish Linguistics at The University of Manchester, in the UK. I was trained as a theoretical syntactician and as a language acquisitionist during my Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut, but my interests extend to Romance and English Linguistics, Dialectal Microvariation, Translation and Interpretation, Bilingualism, and Second Language Acquisition (including Heritage Speakers), among others.

Manchet extends a warm welcome to Julio, and hopes he’ll extend our winning streak!
