Tine is an AHRC Leadership Fellow!

LEL’s Tine Breban has been awarded Leadership Fellow funding by the Arts & Humanities Research Council!

Tine’s project starts on 1 July 2016 and will last until 15 Sept 2017. The title of the project is A methodology for qualitative analysis of historical corpus data: New insights about language change from a micro-analytical approach.

The idea is that historical corpora offer a wealth of information that is not all optimally used. There is a lot of information that you can see at first sight, and many linguists have tended to focus on that information. By just scratching the surface, empirical evidence of change that is more difficult to find has remained untapped. The project aims to bring together linguists who study corpus data at the micro-level, and hopes to develop a methodology for micro-analysis and to uncover new insights about how language change works from new micro-level evidence. The project also includes a series of workshops for year 12 college students, in which they will learn how to use historical corpora in the study of language change.

Manchet congratulates Tine and wishes her a fruitful year of research!
