Baranowski’s new publication in LVC

Maciej Baranowski has just published a paper in the renowned variationist journal Language variation and change. The paper, based on one of the largest speech community studies ever conducted, considers the connection between GOOSE-fronting and GOAT-fronting by exploring the social distribution of the two changes. In the paper, Maciej compares the role of social class with that of local identity in the spread of linguistic change. Interestingly, it appeared that social class (construed in terms of density of contact) has more impact on change than attitudes towards Manchester!
