The 20th International Conference on English Historical Linguistics (ICEHL XX) saw an excellent representation from Manchester LEL. The following contributions came from current LEL postgraduate students and staff.

Moretti. The origin of auxiliary do: evidence from Old English

Bermúdez-Otero. Diagnostics of the moraic trochee from Proto-Germanic to the present: (LL)~(H) equivalence, (LH) and (HL) avoidance

Bech & Breban. Position of attributive adjectives in Old English

Zamecnik & Denison. A quantitative exploration of SKT constructions

In addition, there were many happy reunions with former PhD (Victorina González-Díaz and Linda van Bergen) and other students (Graeme Trousdale, Bélen Méndez-Naya, Maria-José López-Couso), as well as fomer colleagues (Lauren Fonteyn, George Walkden, Sylvia Adamson, Louise Sylvester, Stephen Laker).

Manchet notes, not without envy, that the conference featured an outstanding social programme with options such as a guided walking tour of Edinburgh, visit to Inveraray Castle, a trip to Holy Island, boat tour on the Forth, and Rosslyn Chapel.
