And The Best Outstanding Output Award 2019 goes to…

We end this week with the thrilling announcement that our recent graduate, George Bailey, is the winner of the Manchester Doctoral College Best Outstanding Output Award 2019 in the Faculty of Humanities. This award is in recognition of George’s recent paper published in Journal of Sociolinguistics titled ‘Emerging from below the social radar: Incipient evaluation in the North West of England‘. One of the many things that make this work special is that it provides new and tremendously important sociolinguistic observations, based on a case study of Northern English, a variety we all know, love, and sometimes even speak, with varying degrees of authenticity (George does a relatively convincing Northern accent himself ).

Congratulations, George! As good as its word, Manchet has now given you your very own Manchet category.
