Postcard from Eva

Just in! Here’s what it says.

After Ricardo’s this is the second postcard from Leipzig this summer! To be honest I’ve already left Leipzig but had too busy a time while there, attending this year’s conference of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (sle19.eu) –  especially since it all started off with accumulated delays on my train journey from Manchester which in the end amounted to 12hrs.
I was the co-organiser and a speaker at a workshop on “Knowledge and Interaction” (focusing on fieldwork methodology for epistemic marking systems), presented another paper on Jaminjung modality, and I’m also a freshly elected member of the SLE’s executive committee, so stayed on for the committee meeting.
The trip had a nostalgic feel to it because I had a happy time as a postdoc in Leipzig some 17 years ago, and for a while lived in the Apothekenmuseum (‘pharmacy museum’, pictured) building right opposite the St Thomas Church, made famous by J.S. Bach and the Thomaner choir.
