A very warm welcome to Shatha Alahmadi, who starting her PhD this year at LEL, under the supervision of Vera and Martina. Below is more information about Shatha and her research project – in her won words.

“I was born and raised in Medina, Saudi Arabia. I received my BA in English Language from Taibah University. I did my MA in Linguistics in the University of Manchester last year. I have a deep interest in linguistics, especially in semantics and pragmatics. I am particularly interested in alternative semantics and the cross-linguistic variation in the grammar of alternatives. For my PGR project, I am investigating the syntax and semantics of focus in Hijazi Arabic. I am hoping to learn more about the grammar of focus across languages. Outside of linguistics, I love to spend time with family and friends, and I love to watch science fiction movies.”
