Manchet is pleased to announce another successful viva in LEL. Rachel Kirkwood has defended her thesis titled “Stand Still in the Light: metaphorical conceptualisation of religious experience, with particular reference to the writings of 17th-century Quakers”. The work combines conceptual metaphor theory with corpus linguistics in the study of religious discourse.

Rachel was supervised by Maj-Britt Mosegaard Hansen and Naomi Baker (English & American Studies), with Tine Breban as the independent reviewer. The thesis was examined by Professor Veronika Koller (Lancaster) and Dr Todd Klutz (Religion & Theology, Manchester).
